Responsible for all aspects of product assortment, pricing, replenishment and promotion for items within assigned categories.  Selects suppliers and develops productive business relationships with them.  Serves as the expert in their assigned categories.


  • Negotiates terms of purchase with suppliers covering product assortment, product costing, product investment programs and product promotion
  • Negotiates supplier programs to improve and exceed rebate budget
  • Reviews, analyzes and implements supply chain efficiencies, including cost of goods improvement, logistics improvement, days on hand and terms
  • Establishes annual category objectives and plans
  • Implements SKU rationalization plans to ensure correct product mix for assigned categories in order to satisfy customer needs and branch objectives
  • Develops and implements all branch marketing activities within assigned categories
  • Develops promotional mix that optimizes the balance of sales and profitability
  • Works with Sales and Marketing to develop the right blend of pricing tiers and item prices to achieve target profit margins across subcategories and within assigned categories
  • Understands market intelligence pertaining to industry trends, emerging concepts and market segments
  • Negotiates Corporate Vendor Allowance Programs
  • Develops Corporate Merchandising Activities to support branch merchandising events (sales events, flyers, promotions)
  • Provides assistance with branch level merchandising events, including regional food shows
  • Responsible for regular review and renegotiation of vendor contracts, both FSA brands and national brands
  • Prepares and analyses applicable reports
  • Provides timely and accurate promotional funds collection by assigned vendors
  • Responsible for growth of assigned FSA brands to meet company sales and profit objectives
  • Provides advisory services to branch in regard to category plans
  • Develops FSA brands and national brands category plans
  • Provides excellent customer service
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned



  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, preferred
  • Five years of experience in Category or Product Management or in Buying or Purchasing
  • Two years of sales experience in the food industry, preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track records in developing excellent vendor and customer relationships
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
  • Ability to pass background investigation and drug screen
